Learning journey

Your child is building essential counting skills — learning that numbers have meaning, that each number represents a specific quantity, and beginning to compare groups to see which has more or fewer objects.

Evidence of understanding

  • Count 2, 4, 6, 8 … up to at least 20
  • Count 5, 10, 15, 20 … up to at least 50
  • Count 10, 20, 30 … up to 100

Assessment prompt

If Counting in 2s is counting socks being paired up, can they skip-count in twos — 2, 4, 6, 8 — all the way to 20? Can they also count up in fives when counting coins, or in tens on a number line?
